Star Trek Review

On board the USS Enterprise, my summer movie reviews continue. I'm still behind, but I'll work hard today to catch up. So without further comment:

J.J. Abram's Star Trek in one word: Awesome! Who didn't come out of this movie wishing that they could join Starfleet Academy. This movie was so awesome I came home and watched it on my computer for a second time.
My only critique of this movie was that I thought the story kind of fell apart sometimes. The storyline was a little weak: Romulan Revenge, totally has been done before. But other than that the movie was excellent. I loved the clever "time line" revamp of the Star Trek universe. In this case, while the movie is still a revamp, at least it allows for the other stories to remain cannon material. Very clever, and I'm not surprised since Abram's obviously loves time travel, as witnessed in LOST.
What really makes this movie though are the strong characters. It might also be one of the things that made the original series so successful. Each character is so well-defined in their niche in the story that if you removed any one of them there would be a gap missing. The writers and actors did a wonderful job of capturing this larger than life personalities.
Bottom line is that this movie really blew me away. I can't way for Cryptic to come out with its Star Trek Online RPG so that I can hope into my own ship as soon as possible. My rating:

Music (1/2 Star): 1/2 Star
SFX (1/2 Star): 1/2 Star
Directing (1 Star): 1 Star
Writing/Story (1 Star): 1/2 Star
Acting (1 Star): 1 Star
Enjoyment (1 Star): 1 Star

Total Score: 4.5 out of 5 Stars
